Clean water is a background feature of modern life that requires no second thought. For most of us, anyway. But there are nearly 700 million people across the world who live day to day without reliable access to safe water. Up to 60% of water infrastructure projects in developing regions eventually fail and are abandoned. Well-meaning organizations install wells, take photographs, and leave, only for a broken pump or missing replacement part to set the community right back to where they started.
